Five actresses are cast as mistresses in the film adaptation of Jullie Yap Daza’s 1992 bestseller, “Etiquette for Mistresses.” They are Claudine Barretto, Iza Calzado, Cheena Crab, Kim Chiu and Kris Aquino.

Directed by Chito Roño, the movie takes a peek into kept women’s relationships with married men. Are they glorified in it? Roño clarifies, “It isn’t our intention to glorify infidelity, adultery and the things that mistresses do—but, neither do we pass judgment on them. The book title has an added line, ‘What wives can learn from them.’”

Roño adds that moviegoers are fascinated with the lives of mistresses, probably due to the absence of divorce in this country. The film serves as a comeback vehicle for Claudine, whose last movie with Star Cinema was “Sukob.”

Kim welcomes portraying a role outside her comfort zone. As for Kris, the director gave in to the actress’ request to give her character, Georgia, some form of redemption, because she is a product endorser.
