Indie brings out Glaiza de Castro’s love for music
DE CASTRO. Family comes first.
Glaiza de Castro auditioned twice and waited for five years to finally see the fruit of her labor in Quark Henares’ new film, “Rakenrol.” “The excitement before we started is still here! It’s a dream project! On TV, people see me in either cutesy, baddie or dramatic roles – but, this is the real me!”
De Castro plays Irene, a vocalist in a band that also includes Jason Abalos. Glaiza recalls, “I didn’t have any difficulty adjusting. I was one of the boys!”
Albums
A self-confessed music geek, she further shares, “If I like a band, I google them. I’ll check out all their albums and buy them!”
Among the local bands she admires are Up Dharma Down, Taken by Cars, Pedicab and Pupil. She has two albums under her name and, on her free time, she plays in a band.
She discloses, “Not a lot of people know that I also write songs. Dun lumalabas ang pagka-geek ko. Instead of going out, I record songs on my laptop, play the guitar or write lyrics.”
But, the 23-year-old actress knows her priorities: “I don’t want singing to get in the way of my acting career. Band members might misunderstand my life as an actress. If your schedule is hectic and you can’t join the gig, they might think you’re being a prima donna. When my TV shows wrap up, I can go back to singing!”
How important is family to her? She muses, “Show biz is fleeting. You cannot trust anyone, because you’re in a world of make-believe. So, wala ka pa rin mas pwedeng pagkatiwalaan kundi ang pamilya mo!”
