Lovi Poe still evasive about Ronald Singson

Actress Lovi Poe has denied the rumor that her ex-boyfriend, former Ilocos Sur Rep. Ronald Singson, sent a box of bullets as a threat to actor Jake Cuenca, her costar in the sexy movie “My Neighbor’s Wife.”
“Ronald is not the type who would do that,” Poe told show-biz writers during a gathering for “Aswang,” her latest movie from Regal Entertainment. “He has no reason to feel jealous of Jake. He’s going through a lot right now. An issue like this is not helping him at all.”
Singson was sentenced to an 18-month jail term in Hong Kong on Feb. 24 this year, after getting caught for possession of cocaine and sedatives at the Chek Lap Kok International Airport.
‘Below the belt’
Poe, who had been romantically linked with other actors in the past, regarded the bullets rumor as something that’s “below the belt.” She explained that she’s used to negative comments and criticism, “but this one is just too much. I feel bad for the Singson family. They’ve always treated me with respect.”
But she’s confident that it would not affect her relationship with Cuenca, who became her close friend after shooting “My Neighbor’s Wife” in August. “I’m happy that he actually talked about it in some of his interviews. He’s such a gentleman to have done that,” she said.
She turned evasive when asked about the real score between her and Singson: “We don’t communicate because of his situation. I just want to focus on myself now. I’m happier this way. I’m still young. Let’s see what’s going to happen in the future.”
She keeps busy with movie projects. In the thriller “Aswang,” she plays an abwak, a supernatural creature with the ability to move underground, transform into an animal, abduct humans and feed on them. Paulo Avelino portrays an agent sent to kill the strange creatures. The two meet and fall for each other.
“It was fun making the film,” Poe said. “Can you imagine me trying to scare people?”
Like a vicious animal
She added that the film’s director, Jerrold Tarog, guided her to behave like a vicious animal. “I don’t know how I did it, basta nagwala lang ako. I thought, I could never do this in real life so I might as well enjoy it.”
She described Tarog “meticulous but very relaxed. I also find him very mysterious, which is a good thing. He’s serious but he’s super cute—he would play nice songs at night when everyone is already bored and tired.”
The film, written by Aloy Adlawan, also features Marc Abaya, Precious Lara Quigaman, Joem Bascon, Nina Jose, Albie Casino and Jillian Ward. It opens in theaters nationwide on Oct. 30.
