Plum role for Christian Vasquez
VASQUEZ. Takes full advantage of “revitalizing” showcase.
Aside from entertaining and involving viewers, today’s teleseryes have proven themselves adept at reviving flagging acting careers.
This season, the most effective shows in pulling this energizing feat off include “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita?” which should be credited for making Christian Vasquez popular again. He used to be known as a good actor some seasons back, but when he became less visible on the tube, some viewers forgot how effective he was.
In “Nasaan,” Christian excites viewers all over again with his major performance as the married man who is coveted by his wealthy boss (Denise Laurel).
He ends up living with her, in the process turning off his wife, Vina Morales, and leaving their children “trapped” in the middle whenever their filial love and loyalty are forcibly required.
This is a plum role—imagine, being desired and fought over by two strong women?—and it’s good that it’s been entrusted to Christian, who’s maturely goodlooking and thespically gifted enough to take full advantage of the “revitalizing” showcase it provides.
Like Ian Veneracion before him, Christian has what it takes to turn in a stellar and charismatic performance in maturity—
so, he deserves the success he’s enjoying in his current show. Let’s hope that after the series finally folds up its tents, producers and directors will tap him to do other significant roles in TV-film productions—tuluy-tuloy na.
Other regular talents who are benefiting from regular exposure on the show include its new, ingenue lead, Jane Oineza, who was discovered on “Pinoy Big Brother.” Jane is doing well with the big break she’s getting—and that’s all to the good.
Biggest beneficiary
On the recently concluded “Forevermore,” the biggest “beneficiary” is its female lead, Liza Soberano, who tried to make it as a star twice before, but failed.
Finally, this series has made her a big comer, and her new love team with Enrique Gil has become quite popular—and bankable.
Liza is a good example of the virtue of patience in the process of achieving stardom—which is an often dodgy, bumpy, frustrating process. What did it for her this time around? Her character’s vulnerable, innocent and probinsyana parameters made viewers want to sooth and embrace her, and her fresh beauty was similarly most appealing.
Other “beneficiaries” are paced by Lilet, whose portrayal of Enrique’s wealthy mother has been believable. Trouble is, her character was made to change in the course of the show, from basically a good person to sometimes even shrewish and determined to keep her well-born son from his “undeserving” girlfriend.
This diluted the effectiveness of her otherwise vivid portrayal, but we hope that other productions can take advantage of the implicit “class” that her presence provides.
