Mom’s the word

/ 11:00 PM May 05, 2015

I can’t help feeling melancholic every time Mother’s Day comes around. It’s been 12 years since my SuperwoMom got her call slip from heaven. Even though she’s no longer around, it makes me smile when some people still call me, “Anak ni Inday Badiday.” Being her daughter will always be my best credential.

Ma left me with so many “Mommyisms.” But two of my favorites are: “Look at how a man treats his mother because that’s how he will treat you eventually.” And “Don’t keep track of what your competitors are up to. If you keep looking their way, they will get ahead of you. Focus on your own path and be a trailblazer.”

When it gets lonely at the top, stars run to their mothers for solace. No matter how famous they’ve become, they will always be little girls and boys who need “mothering” when the show biz circus gets too crazy.

I asked some celebs about the “words of wisdom” they got from their moms:

FEATURED STORIES

Jestoni Alarcon: As an only son, my mom always told me not to hang out with people who are bad influences. She also told me to strive hard, be kindhearted and God-fearing.

James Yap: My mother reminded me of the importance of prayer and going to church. No matter how busy life gets, God must always come first.

Janine Gutierrez: My mom (Lotlot de Leon) told me to always think before I speak because once you’ve said something hurtful, you can’t take it back.

Aiza Seguerra: Everything I do must come from the heart.

Benjie Paras: She taught me to make sure not to offend anyone.

Kyla: “Buntot mo, hila mo.” It means that if somebody is not true to you or wants to cause you trouble, it’s not you who carries the burden but the one who is being deceitful.

Baron Geisler: Family is your greatest support system. Blood is thicker than water. That’s why no matter what happens, we stick together. Our mom is the pillar of our family’s strength. My umbilical cord is still “connected” to my mom.

Christine Bersola-Babao: My Mommy Ching taught me how to pray. She prays the rosary every day. I also took after her being charitable. She would constantly remind me that charity begins at home so we should help our loyal household staff first before helping outsiders.

Bianca King: My mom always reminded me to be smart about my choices, be professional and to finish college.

Noel Cabangon: My mom always told me to persevere, study hard and care for other people. She is the most loving person in the world.

Christian Bautista: My mom advised me to simply make God the center of my life.

Muchisimas gracias to Clinique brand manager, Kaye Fidelino, for pampering me and my dalagay IC Mendoza at the Rustan’s Shangri-La makeup counter.

We went gaga over the brand’s 100-percent hypo-allergenic and fragrance-free products.
