Bruce Jenner pushes the gender button

With so many stars doing their best to grab the public’s attention with their latest career moves or “amazing” promotional schemes, it’s become really hard to upstage the madding and maddening competition.
This month, however, that feat has been accomplished by sports icon and Kardashian stepfather Bruce Jenner, who recently dropped the bombshell announcement that —he was in the process of transforming himself into a woman!
He did it by agreeing to an ask-all, tell-all interview with Diane Sawyer, a must-watch special that was viewed by no fewer than 17 million people. In the “explosive” one-on-one session, Jenner admitted that he’s actually been thinking of making the big change for some decades now.
His situation was made particularly complicated by the fact that he was a macho sports hero—and that the Kardashian women are so much in the public eye, due to their multiple reality shows.
But, Jenner felt that the big decision could no longer be postponed if he wanted to be truly happy—so after divorcing his wife Kris, he bit the bullet and decisively pushed the gender button.
Working in Jenner’s favor is the fact that, as a man, he was already known for his fine facial features —so, it’s likely that, after his sex-change process is completed, he will look really good as a woman —unlike some guys-turned-gals who sill look hunky and chunky.
Sex-change advocates and supporters are happy that somebody as well-known as Jenner has finally emerged as the new poster child for the LGBT movement. His celebrity status has forced the issue “out there,” and more enlightened viewers should use it to initiate discussions about the entire LGBT phenomenon. It’s time to go beyond shock and awe, and reconfigure our perception of private and public realities today.
Attention-calling MTV
Less amazing but also quite uniquely attention-calling was the release last week of Manny Pacquiao’s new song and music video, which has been well-timed to catch the viewing public’s interest in and excitement over Pacquiao’s championship Fight of the Century with “Money” Mayweather at its fever pitch.
Viewed objectively, Pacquiao’s music video isn’t all that amazing because it’s stodgily performed and full of self-serving motherhood statements.
Still, the music video makes him the only sports champ on the global scene who’s also—a singing star! Thus, we wouldn’t be surprised if Pacquiao’s latest feat gets special notice from the international news networks, further boosting its prospects worldwide!
Jenner and Pacquiao—two sports icons who know how to grab the viewing public’s rapt attention. The global sports scene wouldn’t be the same without them!
