Sharon Cuneta has been contending with “mega” problems of late (her daunting battle with the bulge, TV shows that don’t click with viewers), so little has been heard from her of late.

Imagine her fans’ pleasant surprise last week, therefore, when she up and hit the headlines running with a series of breaking-news declarations:

First, she was giving up her cushy TV5 contract and returning to ABS-CBN, where she will serve as a judge on a new impersonation tilt, “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” debuting on the Kapamilya network today.

Next, she revealed that, instead of eating her blues away, she has in fact been on a weight-reduction regimen that has already pared off 40 lbs from her hefty frame. A lot more still needs to be sweated and dieted off—but, it’s a good start!

Third, Sharon hopes that when she’s back to fighting trim, she can make a film or drama series with her daughter, KC Concepcion. Now, that would be a “royal” thespic event truly worth looking forward to!

May we also suggest to Sharon and KC that they should use their stellar clout to popularize Filipino stage musicals over the imported variety? If they do so, they would make a major contribution to Philippine arts and culture!

Now that Sharon is back in the public eye, she can expect the usual suspects to cynically and cruelly rain on her parade, sniffing that she’s too fat and old and “feeling entitled” to make a big, successful comeback at this low point in her public life. Well, she should just sweetly tell them to go fly a kite—and prove them wrong!

If Sharon does make a successful comeback, she would provide strong motivation for other overweight stars to slough off those unwanted pounds and bring back the glow and glitter to their languishing careers.
