People complain when the fickle fingers of fate deal them a lousy hand. But, if we look more closely at some of our past experiences, they’re less black and white, and more a matter of taking the bad with the good.

Take the recent Heart Evangelista-Chiz Escudero nuptials: It was a dream wedding in every way—except for the fact that Heart’s parents chose not to be around to give her away.

Had she been made of lesser stuff, the bride could have weakened in her resolve due to that sad reality. But, she chose to focus on her own happiness, and ended up—all Heart!

Above all else

Also determined to be happy above all else is Dolphy’s widow, Zsa Zsa Padilla, who has been rapped for “too quickly” finding a new love in celebrity-architect Conrad Onglao.

Celebrating her love child

Another target of some haters’ snide comments is Cristine Reyes, who recently gave birth almost two months before her official due date.

Cristine has been “blamed” for the premature delivery, because she was working out well into her pregnancy, but others have pointed out that no cause-and-effect case can be logically established.

So, Cristine is focusing on celebrating the arrival of her love child, unexpectedly sudden though it may have been, and nosy noisemakers can diss and hiss—until they’re blue in the face!

All the way to the bank

On the foreign show biz scene, the bondage movie, “Fifty Shades of Grey,” has been excoriated for being an erotic and erratic bore. But, its producers are laughing all the way to the bank, because it grossed a whopping $80 million on its first weekend in theaters.

Films that make more than $30 million at first pop are hailed as hits, so you can imagine the excitement that the film’s initial take of $80 million is generating!

Could a sequel be in the offing? You bet your dominatrix whip it is! Title it “Fifty-One Shades of Black and Blue,” why don’t you?

Defending Brian

Even beleaguered newscaster Brian Williams is rapidly learning how to take the good with the bad: Excoriated by many for “colorfully” playing around with the facts in some newscasts, he’s now being defended by some of his colleagues and superiors, so after his suspension is over, he could survive his self-induced ordeal.

How? For starters, he’s been advised to go on a national “mea culpa” tour, abjectly admitting to his colorful fabrications, and hoping against hope that viewers and the TV news trade will give him that all-important Second Chance!

Heaven for hell

For her part, Reese Witherspoon suffered a lot when she shot her latest starrer, “Wild,” about a psychologically troubled woman who had to walk a thousand miles across the United States’ Pacific Coast Highway in order to purge herself of her many demons.

But, the arduous shoot, which most stars would balk at, has resulted in a performance that has won raves and acting award nominations for Witherspoon, so, the “hell” she went through—has definitely produced some “heavenly” rewards!
