Through the years, he has consistently been creating and promoting original Filipino music. He has mentored and honed exceptional homegrown talents. I don’t think anyone can argue that he is our best candidate for the next National Artist for Music.”

Jose Mari Maycacayan, marketing consultant: “Lea Salonga should conceptualize another concert, preferably in a more intimate venue. Her voice is more mature and relaxed these days. She should be more experimental in her choice of music, like jazz or soul.
“Another singer who should be seen in a concert is Lani Misalucha. She can do a Barbra Streisand medley. Also, the show of Bituin Escalante at the CCP in October is promising. She can interpret complex songs. We should support our own musical artists!”

But, news reporting and his involvement in a sex-video scandal just don’t mix! What other options does he have? May this serve as a warning to other celebrities—practice discretion, especially when it concerns very intimate matters!”
Orly Matias, televiewer: “GMA 7 has been lagging behind ABS-CBN when it comes to musical-variety shows. It’s quite apparent in the airing of the networks’ Sunday shows—the former has to delay its ‘Sunday All Stars’ to avoid a head-on clash with ‘A.S.A.P.’
“It has nothing to do with their musical performers, because GMA has exceptional singers, too. But, technically, ABS-CBN has the upper hand: Their camera movements and angling are more dynamic. They know what to highlight in a particular production number. I hope GMA 7 catches up.”
Michael Obenieta, writer: “At 61, Nora Aunor is as strong as ever. True, she’s now a senior citizen, but she has finished five films so far this year! She’s about to shoot another one, about the ‘Yolanda’ devastation, later this month. That’s something not even younger stars can do!”
