Palace congratulates Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera on engagement

MANILA, Philippines – Although he was asked in jest, Communications Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. on Sunday gamely gave Malacañang’s seal of approval for the engagement of celebrity couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.
“Binabati po natin sila, ano, at best wishes po sa kanilang dalawa (We congratulate them. Best wishes to both of them),” Coloma said over state-run radio dzRB.
The interviewer pointed out that Dantes, who proposed to his long-time girlfriend on live television, was an ally of the Aquino administration.
In 2010, Dantes campaigned for Benigno Aquino III’s presidential run.
In May 2014, Dantes was appointed by Aquino as commissioner-at-large of the National Youth Commission.
The actor is rumored to run for senator in 2016 but both Dantes and Rivera denied that there were already such plans.
