Actor Gerald Anderson would rather not work with actress Maja Salvador, his girlfriend of over a year, in any movie or TV project.

“I want our relationship to be private. I don’t want work to get in the way. That’s our way of protecting what we have,” said the star of the ABS-CBN series “Dyesebel.”

Gerald described his relationship with Maja as “unique.” More than lovers, he said, they are best friends. “We’ve gone through a lot, and I’d rather not discuss details. We survived. It means we’re both strong people,” he pointed out.

He was just sad, he said, because their busy work schedule keeps them from spending as much time with each other as they want. Gerald is often out of town working on “Dyesebel.”

Maja just finished “The Legal Wife” and is promoting her concert series “Maj: The Legal Performer.”

Top priority

“Work is our top priority right now. We make it a point to talk to each other when we have free time. We don’t have a specific day to meet up, but we make that effort as often as our schedule permits,” Gerald told reporters at the recent “National Makeover Day” event organized by the cosmetics brand HBC at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.

He said he was proud of Maja’s performance in “The Legal Wife” and was aware of the negative comments she received via Twitter because of her mistress character.

“That she had haters meant she was effective. But she also got good reviews—that’s what’s important. I got to catch a few episodes. The cast members all did well.”

Gerald also said he was aware of the steamy love scenes between Maja and costar Jericho Rosales in the show and did not mind them at all.

“The scenes were necessary because their characters were lovers. I totally understand that it’s part of their job. I’m an actor myself and have done similar scenes with other actresses. It’s not a big deal,” he insisted.

Gerald’s latest TV commercial, which also features ex-girlfriend Kim Chiu has likewise drawn a lot of buzz from netizens. “Our fans, the Kimeralds, were pleased,” he observed. “I’m thankful that they are still around to support us. It’s been a long time since we worked together.”

Kim and Gerald were last seen in the romantic movie “24/7 in Love,” released in 2012.

Gerald said he’d welcome working with Kim again. “I consider each project a blessing. I’m not likely to say no to anything, but I guess working with Kim would be a better idea because our team-up already has a solid following,” he said.

While all is well between them, he admitted that he still felt tense around Kim during the commercial shoot.

Awkward

“It was a little awkward in the beginning. But since we’re both professionals, the uneasy feeling didn’t last for long,” he said.

The commercial also featured Matteo Guidicelli and Jessy Mendiola, who were also romantically linked in the past.

Former best friends Kim and Maja had a rift when the latter started dating Gerald in 2013. The actresses recently announced that they have reconciled.

“I’m thankful that this finally happened,” said Gerald. “Who wants conflict in your life?”
