Even if you aren’t a fan of One Direction, it would be very hard to not realize what a momentous event the boy band’s concert at the MOA concert grounds will be next year.

Watching the news at home from different local channels, I was so amused to see so many fans lining up for hours just to purchase those prized tickets for the concert of One Direction.

Such a sight is not at all surprising because One Direction is the Number 1 boy band in the world right

FEATURED STORIES

For those who don’t understand, you wonder why the boy band is so globally popular? Well, you just have to ask your kids or your younger siblings to know the answers to that puzzling phenomenon. Surely, you will hear more than a couple of reasons why they follow One Direction to the point of hysteria.

*****

One Direction is the boy band of their generation

I know some of their fans are frustrated, and even feel infuriated, why many other music aficionados coming from the different music groups here in the Philippines don’t like One Direction, or find them annoying, to say the least, which reasons have often made the members of the boy band a target of mean, insensitive, and even some borderline “sick” posts in social networking sites.

While I don’t participate in the “mob mentality” of poking fun or ridiculing One Direction, what I can say to their supporters is to simply ignore the naysayers and just enjoy being fans! I am a not a fan of One Direction but I do recognize and accept that they do mean something to their fans–whether it is that their fans can groove to their music; or that they find their boyish charms appealing; or that they are swept by the wave of the boy band’s current overwhelming popularity.

It is so easy to make fun of other artists! But the bigger challenge is to accept that they, One Direction, in fact, serve a purpose, especially for the younger generations who are always looking out for those who they can idolize. After all, we are all young only once. And one of the best things about being young is that sometimes you are oblivious to all the other things around you that do not have anything to do with the music you listen to.

The music of One Direction is harmless. It is way better for the young kids now to listen to this kind of music rather than to other artists’! Because I have a handful of names in my head right now whose music is truly inappropriate for our teens. And One Direction isn’t one of them!
