ROMERO. Turns 81 this year

Retiring from show biz isn’t in Gloria Romero’s vocabulary. The former movie queen will turn 81 in December, but she intends to continue acting for as long as she can memorize her lines and do justice to the roles assigned to her.

Gloria is in the cast of the new GMA 7 drama series, “Niño.”

She shares, “We tape on location in Pagsanjan, Laguna—that means waking up at 4 in the morning to prepare for the long trip! I’m glad that my request to the network to work only until midnight was granted. I play grandmother to Niño (Miguel Tanfelix), who has a positive outlook on life. I prefer to do ‘teleseryes’ that extol good values.”

Gloria advises young stars to take their work seriously and save for the proverbial rainy day. What is the secret of her success and longevity? She beams, “I go up and down the stairs until I perspire, and I do a little gardening. The scent of flowers fills me with joy! My food intake is monitored by my daughter, Maritess, who’s a chef. I can eat anything I want—but, patikim-tikim na lang!”
