Angel’s birthday surprise makes BF Luis cry

If she had her way, actress Angel Locsin would not let boyfriend, TV host Luis Manzano, watch her steamy love scenes with costar Jericho Rosales in the ABS-CBN drama series “The Legal Wife.”
“Luis is open-minded, but the thought of him seeing those scenes makes me uncomfortable,” the actress said.
Angel recently threw a surprise birthday celebration for Luis, who turned 33 on April 21. She said the unannounced performance of the Side A band at the party brought Luis to tears.

She recounted: “He didn’t want a big party. He meant to host a simple dinner with family and friends. I said I’d plan it and hire a band. He said yes, thinking we’d have an acoustic group. He was so happy to see Side A, he cried! I asked the band to play ‘Tuloy Pa Rin,’ the first song that Luis’ own high-school band played. It is memorable to him.”
Angel herself turned 29 recently. A get-together was arranged on the set of “The Legal Wife.”
“My supporters and sponsors brought food. Some friends turned up,” she related. “I’m thankful to those who sent flowers, gifts and greetings.”
Angel said the “Legal Wife” team is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from televiewers. Every night, loyal viewers post reactions on Twitter and make the series “trend” locally and worldwide.
“There are funny comments, too, mostly from male viewers pleading with their girlfriends or wives not to hate them for what Jericho’s character, Adrian, did to Monica, my character.”
“The Legal Wife” features Maja Salvador as Adrian’s lover Nicole. “We are not here to judge people or label them ‘mistresses,’ ‘cheating husbands’ or ‘bitter wives.’ We’re just presenting something that really happens.”
Angel said she accepted the project because she has many friends who share Monica’s experiences. “We’ve seen a lot of movies about the mistress. Why not show something from the point of view of the suffering wife?”
What would make you give up your partner in real life?
Cheating is a big deal to me. No two people would be truly happy if one of them has caused the other pain.
Why does a person cheat?
A man cheats when his ego is hurt. A Filipino husband is so used to being spoiled by his wife; it’s important to him, from time to time, to feel needed. If the wife doesn’t see that, he looks for someone else who will.
Are there scenes that are similar to your personal experiences in past relationships?
There’s this scene where Monica inspects Adrian’s phone and discovers that the inbox and call log are empty. I can relate to that. I guess the show also serves as a wake-up call to guys—Ibahin n’yo naman ang style n’yo. Buking na e! (Change your style; you’re busted!)
