Lorde surprised with Billboard nominations

MEXICO CITY – Pop singer Lorde said she was surprised to hear she was one of the most nominated artists for next month’s Billboard Music Awards.

The New Zealand teenager said that every time she wins an award she is “super surprised because I kind of forget that anyone listens to my music.”

The 17-year-old singer made the comment Thursday at a news conference in Mexico City, where she offered a concert Wednesday night.

She said being nominated is “incredible” and “an honor.”

Lorde is a finalist for the music award in 12 categories, thanks to her Grammy-winning multiplatinum hit “Royals.”

She said she is in music for the long term and added, “I don’t see myself not making music any time soon.”
