Alvin Patrimonio’s silver belle

ALVIN Patrimonio and Cindy Conwi niceprint

I’ve known Alvin Patrimonio since his Mapua college days.  He has remained mild-mannered and self-effacing even now that he’s already a PBA icon.

During the “Kris Aquino” episode of his life, Alvin and then-President Cory Aquino’s daughter used to frequent our place since the two of them were very close to my mom  (Inday Badiday).  In fact, they are the godparents of my dalaGAY, IC Mendoza.

FEATURED STORIES

They are marking their silver wedding anniversary on  March 8 at  the Blue Leaf Events Pavilion (The Fort). Their daughters, Christine and Clarice will be the maids of honor and their sons, Angelo and Asher will stand as best men.

Some of their principal sponsors are Eduardo Cojuangco Jr., Ramon Ang, Virgie Ramos and  Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala.  Just like basketball, “The Captain” and his ever-supportive wife have had their share of fouls and misses, but their team effort  has made them bounce back.

After 25 blissfully crazy years, Cindy and Alvin are still making  “three-point shots” with those three little words, “I love you.”

Here’s my exclusive one-on-one with Mrs. Alvin Patrimonio a.k.a. Cindy:

What’s your formula as a couple that made your marriage last?

Without God at the center of our marriage, we would not have reached this far. As human beings, there are times we tend to think only of ourselves. But once you get to know the right things to do according to God’s word, it helps you to become unselfish.

What’s your advice to wives   whose husbands are hounded by women just like Alvin?

There are really lots of women  who will try to flirt with a married man. Support your hubby in everything. Alvin and I are both athletic so we enjoy talking about any sport. We are competitive with each other. When you enjoy each other’s company, there’s no room for anyone else.

Prayers help a lot. I always pray that God steers away my husband from other women. Intimacy is also important. Make sure you are both satisfied to infinity and beyond. Have loads of patience and understanding.

What was the biggest trial in your marriage?

Marriage is no joyride. We’ve had emotional and financial crises. But at the end of the day, it’s all worth it. We just have to remember  that this is the life  we have planned and decided so there’s no giving up.

What’s the sweetest thing Alvin did for you?

He always puts me and our children first. Like he doesn’t mind if his phone is an old model for as long as the kids and I have the latest kind.

How do you handle arguments?

Sometimes we discuss it. Sometimes we just let it pass. It’s like we both know already what we did wrong. So parang tampuhan lang and after a few hours, “Fifty Shades of Grey” na! Hahaha!

What’s your most memorable moment with Alvin?

When he bought his first car during our boyfriend/girlfriend days, he picked me up in school straight from the casa. We had a fun afternoon.

What are some of Alvin’s quirks/rituals before a ball game?

We would pass by McDonald’s Greenhills and buy spaghetti. Then we would park at the same spot every time.

Tell  us about your kids.

Angelo graduated in Culinary Arts. But he really wants to become an actor. He acts well. All he needs is a good break. Christine and Clarice are both busy with school and tennis. Clarice is interested to join Bb. Pilipinas next year. Asher is very bibo and multitalented.

What will be your vow to Alvin during your silver nuptials?

Even with all the trials we have faced in the past 25 years, I hated going through them but I would not change a single thing because we would not  be as strong and as in love if we didn’t experience them. Being with you is such a gift from God. I love the life you have given me. Thank you for loving me.
