War brewing between industry stalwart, brazen newbie

A war is brewing between Industry Stalwart and Prodigious Upstart.

IS and PU were not chummy to start with but they were not sworn enemies, either. Now the battle lines have been drawn.

PU publicly criticized IS for being pompous; IS was turned off by PU’s arrogance. Tit for tat.

Will this lead to a bloodbath?

Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail… or else, hot heads will roll.

Feisty femmes

Gorgeous starlets are not friendly these days, either. Feisty Belle won a prized project but was deluged with intrigues as a result. Stunning Rival from another studio deemed FB too wizened for said venture.

Even Beautiful Colleague from the same firm is not impressed. BC has been making snide comments about FB of late. Does BC covet the success that FB currently enjoys?

Sour grapes ang tawag diyan.

In hiding

Flamboyant Insider is now a persona non grata in the industry. FI ran away with the earnings of an award-winning project, leaving Poor Producers in hock.

FI failed to settle accounts with suppliers, talents and crew members in another project shot in the province. The hapless victims raised a fuss and since FI skipped town, jail time was supposedly clear.

Worse, FI has also been slapped with a molestation case. No wonder FI is hiding… abroad. Sosyal.

Reprimanded

From the Inquirer Radio program “Inquirer Entertainment” (dzIQ 990 AM, Monday to Friday, 3 to

5 p.m.):

Seems the bosses have received complaints against Porcelain Beauty, who’s far from delicate and can actually be brash with colleagues.

Not a few insiders are miffed and there’s talk that studio execs have ordered PB to mend her abrasive ways.

Dire straits

From the Inquirer tabloid Bandera:

Seasoned Celeb got into trouble because of her uncontrollable temper. Apparently, SC’s foul mood was caused not just by unsettling intrigues but also by financial woes.

SC is in dire straits. She reportedly sold her home and had to rent a flat for which, alas, she couldn’t meet the monthly payments.

Luckily, loyal friends are standing by SC, showering her with choice assignments to tide her over the crisis.

For those who missed these TV gabfests (and why we are moved, if we are moved):

• Comedienne Ai-Ai de las Alas on her feelings toward estranged husband Jed Salang and the impending annulment of their marriage: “Sana mapatawad ko na siya from the bottom of my heart … ’Pag nakuha ko na ang papel (annulment) na ’yon, magpapa-picture ako. Yayakapin ko siya (the paper, not the man).” (Take it easy; you don’t heal in one day.)

• Ai-Ai on Jed’s rumored plan to join show biz: “E di mag-artista siya! Pero hindi ko siya susuportahan.” (Try another profession, bro.)

• Ai-Ai on blind dates and the possibility of living a life of single blessedness: “May pinakilala sa akin. Excited ako makita ang hitsura niya … Minsan ang buhay ng iba sa atin [ay] designed for single blessedness. Malay mo, kasali pala ako sa kategoryang ’yon.” (Pa’no kung guwapo?)

• Singer-actress Jolina Magdangal, who gave birth to baby Pele Iñigo Escueta on Feb. 18 via C-section: “’Di ko alam kung paaano ko ide-describe ang kasiyahan. ’Di pa ako makapaniwala hanggang ngayon. Araw-araw tinatanong ko kung totoo ba … Love na love ko siya. Mula paa ko hanggang dulo ng strands ng buhok ko, ibibigay ko sa kanya.” (Ah, the happy phase!)

• Rivermaya drummer Mark Escueta’s promise to baby Pele: “Bukod sa pagiging mabuting magulang, pagsisikapan namin na maging best friends niya, maging barkada niya.” (Our advice? Be his parents first.)

• Vhong Navarro’s legal counsel, Alma Mallonga, on the reason her client was a no-show at the most recent Department of Justice hearing: “Hindi na niya kailangang dumalo. He already appeared at nanumpa sa tatlong salaysay. Nag-submit pa ang NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) ng affidavit that fully supports his statement.” (Parang justice will be served.)

• Howard Calleja, legal counsel for Deniece Cornejo, discussing the contents of her counteraffidavit: “We just elucidated there that 1) if there is any illegal detention, one has to have intent of deprivation of liberty— there is none here, and 2) ’yung sinasabi nila na it’s improbable for rape to be committed in one minute, may dalawa na pong [naunang] Supreme Court decisions d’yan na less than a minute may [naganap] na rape. Sa sinasabi nilang walang medico legal, walang rape, mayroon na ring Supreme Court decision d’yan.” (Can we all please move away from this already?)

• Businessman Cedric Lee accused Vhong’s home network, ABS-CBN, of character assassination: “I understand that they have to protect their own. ’Yang si Vhong, talent nila, cash cow nila … Ayaw nilang masira ’yan and also to draw loyalty from their other talents. But I’m requesting [ABS-CBN] na magisip-isip naman before harboring a rapist. They want to demonize me … ’Di kinuha ang panig ko.” (Innocent until proven guilty… on both sides of this. So hanggang alleged rapist at alleged extortionist lang muna tayo. But  puhleez.)

• TV host Boy Abunda on ABS-CBN’s defense: “Walang nagmumwestra sa itaas kung anong dapat naming gawin sa interview with Vhong … Patuloy kaming nagiimbita kay Deniece at Cedric… para balanse po ang aming report. We do not have illusions of lawyering for Vhong. Ang nais lamang namin ay mabigyan ng pagkakataon na makapagsalaysay sa aming manonood ang makapagkwento ng makatarungan, ng tapat, ng walang kinikilingan at, higit sa lahat, patas.” (At higit sa lahat, tama na!)

• Comedian Vice Ganda on his misunderstanding with “It’s Showtime” cohost Karylle: “Na-hurt siya (Yael Yuzon, Karylle’s boyfriend). ’Di niya matanggap na sa dinami-dami ng pwedeng i-pair sa girlfriend niya, bakit bakla pa? Na-offend ako. ’Di naman ako ang may pakana ng love team dahil unang una, baklang bakla nga ako. Bakit ako makikipag-love team sa isang babae?” (Scratching our heads, too.)

• Actress-TV host Iza Calzado on posing for a photo with current beau Ben Wintle and ex Atticus King during the “Starting Over Again” premiere: “Hindi ako uncomfortable kasi friends kaming lahat. Ang sikreto dito, kaibiganin mo lahat ng ex mo para kapag nagkrus ang landas n’yo, walang meaning. [Ben and Atticus] are civil. They talk about things. ’Pag nakikita kong nagchichikahan sila, ang nasasabi ko lang, ‘Ay ang ganda naman tingnan. Wala silang issue.’” (This should be legislated.)

• Actress Carla Abellana on the rumor that her three-year relationship with Geoff Eigenmann is on rocky ground: “Ang sabi nila it’s because he’s not the romantic type …  Tanggap ko ’yun ever since. Ako naman, sweet as a person. Kapag may idea ako, gagawin ko at ibibigay ko sa kanya.” (Give and not take?)
