MANILA, Philippines – It is a gold bonanza on Discovery Channel this December with spin-off special GOLD RUSH: SOUTH AMERICA and the much-awaited return of hit series JUNGLE GOLD, premiering back-to-back on Monday, December 9 at 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. respectively. The crews are doubling down in pursuit of a golden pay day while taking on Mother Nature’s wicked ways, equipment issues, external threats and each other. They all plan to mine their way out of financially hard times…but who has the Midas touch?

Despite the life or death stakes, daring gold miners George Wright and Scott Lomu return to face Ghana’s notorious rainy season, armed militia, road blocks and treacherous jungle for season two of JUNGLE GOLD. In this 6-part series, the former high-rolling real estate dealers are still struggling to pay off a USD$1 million dollar debt they incurred in the wake of the United States (U.S.) property crash in 2006. They are back in search of new territory in Ghana, Africa’s second largest gold-producing country, in an all-out bid to mine enough gold to strike it rich and secure their families’ futures.

Scott has turned to his father-in-law, Bud, to invest in their third attempt at gold mining in Ghana. With family money on the line and a new addition to the team – British expat David Thomas, an experienced and well-connected miner who has been living permanently in Ghana since 2008 – the pair takes on the precarious and unpredictable world of Ghanaian gold mining yet again, heading back to reclaim their mining equipment and prospect 50 acres of unforgiving but rich land.

All new episodes of JUNGLE GOLD promise must-watch moments as George and Scott put everything on the line to realise their dream. From the very start, George and Scott face dangerous challenges and encounter hurdles at every turn. With passports in their pockets, the men know that one wrong move could result in a race to get out of the country or end up in jail. They have to prove to their investors they have got the chops to get the gold but the daily drama is intense as they battle the muddy jungle, angry neighbours and desperate illegal miners. Will the obstacles prove too much?

Meanwhile on the GOLD RUSH front, crew leaders Todd Hoffman, “Dakota” Fred Hurt and Parker Schnabel take their operations to extremes to find new gold-rich ground during the off-season, pursuing an international venture in South America. A four-part special, GOLD RUSH: SOUTH AMERICA breaks new ground as the miners test themselves like never before from the jungles of South America all the way to the mountains of Alaska and the legendary Klondike. It is a prospecting trip unlike anything ever seen on GOLD RUSH.

FEATURED STORIES

For Hoffman, last season proved especially fruitful, as his crew took home 803 ounces (over 28 grams) of gold, worth more than USD$1.2 million. In the four-part series of GOLD RUSH: SOUTH AMERICA, Hoffman sets his sights on Peru, Chile and Guyana where his crew ventures high into the Andes Mountains and deep into the jungles of the Amazon basin. Will they be able to overcome the dense jungles, deadly roads and turf wars with local miners to get at the gold rich land? Hoffman’s GOLD RUSH: SOUTH AMERICA expedition ends with a climatic decision between returning to Klondike or moving his entire operation to South America.

On the Dakota boys front, GOLD RUSH: SOUTH AMERICA, join the team on their search for virgin ground which takes them from Alaska to Cahoon Creek, a rugged gold claim so remote it can only be accessed by plane or foot. They must find and navigate a route up the mountains which is the source of all of Porcupine Creek’s gold. Meanwhile, Parker Schnabel, who mined out his grandpa’s Big Nugget mine last season, makes the biggest decision of his young life – to forgo college and leave the comfort of his parent’s home to strike out on his own, under the watchful eye of his mentor Tony Beets, with the big boys up in Klondike.

While the men on JUNGLE GOLD and GOLD RUSH: SOUTH AMERICA are no strangers to defeat and danger, they still find themselves pushing like never before in environments never imagined. Be prepared to expect the unexpected. JUNGLE GOLD and GOLD RUSH: SOUTH AMERICA encores back-to-back every Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. and Sunday from 4:00 p.m.
