Uge learns from Maria

EUGENE Domingo (left) and Maricel Soriano wear look-alike watches that say “I love you” and “I love me.”

The trailer of “Momzillas” totally cracked me up. I can hardly wait to watch the movie top-billed by Maricel Soriano and Eugene Domingo (it opens in cinemas Sept. 18). It’s harder to make audiences laugh than to make them cry. But Maria and Uge’s flair for comedy makes it seem so effortless. They are quite a formidable combination.

Uge shares with the Inquirer her thoughts about the Diamond Star.

What was it like working with Maria?

FEATURED STORIES

We clicked instantly on and off cam. Maria calls me “Junior” and  I call her “Lola” because she always says that she’s like a lola already. We love to talk and eat. It was an easy bonding… In “Momzillas,” we became closer as friends, if not like sisters or [mga] mare. Thus we call each other “Sismars” in the movie.

Describe Maria’s comedy style.

Maricel as a dancer and comedienne uses her face and body very well. She’s a natural! Her ability to be spontaneous and flexible is amazing! In comedy, there is a giver and a receiver. She does both flawlessly.

How did you both manage not to upstage each other in the movie?

We respect each other as actors and we are aware that the connection and the ability to listen to each other are the main ingredients [of good] rapport and good chemistry.

What have you learned from Maria?

I have learned many things about the craft and as a person from her. She is very honest. She talks to you from the heart. She makes me laugh and cry. She makes me love my craft more.

What’s your most memorable moment with Maria on the set?

We enjoyed surprising each other with little gifts. (Uge bought matching watches for both of them, the ones shown in the photo above.)

No doubt, Maria also has nothing but good words to say about Uge. They can very well put up a Mutual Admiration Club. Together, they are the superlatives of funny and lovable!

Mommy Yas

The last time I saw Yasmien Kurdi was when she was still a restless party girl. But at Ogie Alcasid’s recent birthday bash, she was the picture of a contented mother and wife. Yas was with her hubby, Rey Soldevilla Jr.

“Our daughter, Ayesha Zara, is already 9 months old. The best things about motherhood are the hugs and kisses from my little angel,” she beamed. “It reminds me that all my hard work is well worth it. My baby loves and appreciates me. She inspires me to do better in what I do.”

What about married life? “It’s beautiful,” she gushed. “It’s not always easy but now that we work as a team, the load is lightened. In all our decisions, we consider each other’s perspectives so we make wiser decisions. I feel blessed, of course, because I married the love of my life.”

I’ve never seen Yas any happier or sexier. That’s what marriage and motherhood can do when it comes at a time when one is ready to embrace it for better, for worse and, best of all, for keeps.
